I spent an enjoyable hour earlier today listening to my new favourite radio hour.
JOSEPH LEKKAS is the founder and songwriter/ vocalist/bass player for the awesome indie/ dream pop band PALM GHOSTS 🇺🇸 from Nashville, TN.
He is a friend and member of our little group, as are BEN DOUGLAS (vocals/ guitar) and WALT EPTING (Drums).
He is also the host of a brilliant hour of indie music on WXNA- a community based FM station in Nashville.
In that hour JOSEPH packs in a wonderful mix of legendary tracks of mostly indie. Our tastes are so similar it seems like we could be sitting in my record room pulling vinyl and CDs. In the show this week there were only 2 songs that aren’t in my collection.
His show is called “Golden Spiral Radio”. It airs weekly on Wednesday at 9am.
You can access the show on the internet by going to wxnafm.org. Once there, click on “Schedule & Archive.” Then go to “Wednesday” and scroll down to “Golden Spiral Radio” and click again. You are in business. There are always the last two episodes available.
Today JOE focused on the TV show “120 Minutes” from MTV. A great hour followed.
For today’s song I have pulled from the playlist a track featured on the show.
In the mid 90’s JESUS & MARY CHAIN 🏴 vocalist and guitarist JIM REID had a romantic relationship with HOPE SANDOVAL. She is most well known as the vocalist for MAZZY STAR 🇺🇸.
In 1994 JAMC released an almost acoustic LP entitled “Stoned And Dethroned.”
Perhaps the centrepiece of this record is the smoldering duet “Sometimes Always”.
It is said the song is an homage to the music of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.
