Back on August 2 (at post #1715), I started this series to focus on LPs released by artists in my collection after a lengthy “Gap”.
TV 21 🏴 were the first featured artist. There was a 28 year hiatus between their LPs #1 and #2.
The gap by today’s featured artist is much shorter – 12 years. However, it is between studio LPs #13 and #14. As well the artist is more prominent and will be known to many of you.
The band is ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN 🇬🇧. They are my favourite band ever from Liverpool. (And I bet you were all certain I would reference A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!?)

I won’t get into the entire history of this band who are among the most prominent post- punk outfits.
I do stand by my assertion that their first studio 4 LPs “Crocodiles” (1980), “Heaven Up Here” (1981), “Porcupine” (1983) and “Ocean Rain” (1984) are as fine a foursome of consecutive releases by any artist. Some think that “Ocean Rain” is the “perfect LP.” I am not far off that conclusion either.
[Ed. Note- Next time you have a long flight or other extended period of quiet, listen to these 4 gems in a single binge session and send rex “thanks”.]

It was never as good as that after for The Bunnymen. The eponymous 5th LP in 1987 had some gems (“Lips Like Sugar” for example) but was inconsistent.
After that, singer IAN McCULLOCH left for solo work (for a while). Drummer PETE DeFREITAS died in a motorcycle accident in the UK in 1989.
In addition to solo releases by Ian, there was also the side show of the outfit ELECTRAFIXION 🇬🇧 for a while.

The band eventually fully restarted and released some decent, but not essential, music through to “Meteorites” in 2014.
There have been many years of touring (often with sporadic reliability by Ian) and now – a new LP!

Here is today’s track. It is my fave on 1st listen.
The song is the lead single “Brussels Is Haunted.” Enjoy the history lesson as we “mind the gap.”
