As I began the welcome, but laborious, task of organizing my music collection, I have (and will) come across wonderful music and ephemera.
There were so many great bands in the 80’s. Many of them were nova stars that burned brightly for a creative, but short, time.
One such outfit had a name I despised but I loved their music.
THE LUCY SHOW 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 were one such outfit. Two Canadians – MARK BANDOLA and ROB VANDEVEN moved to the UK and joined up 2 Brits and evolved into THE LUCY SHOW.

They released 2 studio LPs that topped the College Music charts in the U.S. (“undone” and “Mania”,
They toured with R.EM. 🇺🇸 when that band was at its’ prime.
When their record company (the ironically named Big Time Records) went bankrupt after the release of “Mania” in 1988 it ended. A compilation LP of rarities and other tracks completed their LP output.
BANDOLA has gone on to front two experimental, outfits named TYPEWRITER and later RAMSGATE HOVERCRAFT. I like them both but they do not capture the magic of LUCY SHOW.
Whenever I play their music I am immediately energized. Very few know how magnificent this band is, looking past their lame name. I hope you will agree if you are being introduced for the first time, or happily reminded if you are familiar.
Here is their debut single, “Leonardo DaVinci”-
