New Month, New Image

SYX LANGEMANN is an accomplished Wïndsor area photographer and documentary filmmaker.

I first met SYX in 2024 when I went for a screening of his aces series entitled “Spinning Stories.”

SYX LANGEMANN- “Spinning Stories”

The series of eight short episodes is available at TV1.Bell.ca. It is an homage to the record stores and their proprietors in this area. It is choice. Check it out.

He is also a highly regarded area photographer and does shoots for many publications and the like. He also teaches photography.

Anyway, earlier this year, SYX invited me over to his family home (which includes his studio) for coffee and music talk.

A week or so earlier, when we arranged the time, SYX asked if he could take some pictures of me. I hesitated telling him that given my occupation I didn’t want personal photos out and about. (Ed. Note- There are plenty of those already out there in the cloud from rex’s time in the practice of law.)

As the excellent artist that he is, SYX listened. When I arrived he had an odd looking setup in his studio. He then explained. I was impressed with his plan.

He took numerous shots but after months of dilly- dallying (mostly while I worked on the issues I was having with this site) here is my fave-

SYX took old vinyl records and mounted them vertically in a device. He then had me sit behind this “vinyl screen” for the photos. I thought it was genius for him to tackle my concern, minimize the clarity of image (as I requested) AND do so with a VINYL theme. Brilliant art.

I hope everyone enjoys.

Thanks SYX.

Now for a song. My collection intertwined with my life repeatedly daily. Song titles, band names and lyrics flash before as events happen.

Two song titles came immediately as I thought about the word “picture.”

The first is “Pictures On My Wall” – an early single from ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN 🇬🇧.

I have settled on the second, however. We listened to the latest release from THE CURE 🇬🇧 – (“Songs Of A Lost World”) during my visit. However, I think it is the title of the classic CURE track “Pictures Of You” that sums up this post.

The track is from “Disintegration.” One of my fave CURE LPs from one of the only bands in my collection that made it to Arena Rock status.

Here it is and with a bonus on SPOTIFY – “Live in Detroit” from a 1992 Cure gig I attended back in the day…
