No, I am not referring to the 96F/ 36C weather outside these days.

Rather, today’s post relates to an LP that was crazily influential to me and, one of a number of defining songs from that project.

Here is the LP:

This one of the first 10 LPs I bought in early 1980 when I got the indie bug. It was the brainchild of BOB LAST, an early and prominent promoter of post- punk bands from the north of England.

The LP contained early tracks from 6 bands – 4 of which were massively influential for me in the years ahead. [Ed. Note- GANG OF FOUR, MEKONS, SCARS, are 3 of the 4.]

In my current issue of British magazine UNCUT there was a sweet piece on the debut single by THE HUMAN LEAGUE.

The track is “Being Boiled.” It was on this LP paired with “Circle of Death.”

The song was a protest against the silk industry.

This all synchronized with Group Member Ross telling me recently he was travelling to Niagara Falls to see the band headline with ALISON MOYET (from YAZ) and SOFT CELL.

I must admit to losing the “thread” with HUMAN LEAGUE after their first couple of LPs as they became mega pop stars playing mega pap stuff like “Don’t You Want Me?” [Ed. Note- Answer, no, I don’t.]

The confluence of all that leads to today’s delightful revisit of this strange but formative tune.
