A Measure Of Greatness (The Sunday Read +1 Day)

One last post about the historic PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT gig on June 4th in Manchester.

I start with the thesis that sometimes a measure of the greatness of can be made by considering what was not included…

I offer this.

Consider what  this epic gig would have been like if 2/3rds of the 35 songs on the setlist by PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT had been replaced?

Hmmm…

This idea started when we left the gig at Manchester Academy and I was chatting with group members ELLIOT (BFG) and AMELIA CHAIN about some of the gems that we didn’t hear on this gargantuan playlist. It got me thinking and so I have curated a SPOTIFY playlist to do just that.

I have retained some of the songs that would have to be on any sensible JOY DIVISION/ NEW ORDER career set, but otherwise switched out the other tracks.

For example, we would have all been shaking our heads HOOKY hadn’t played “Transmission”, “Atmosphere”, “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, “Ceremony”, “Blue Monday”, “Bizarre Love Triangle” or “Perfect Kiss.”

However, I urge you to listen to this alternate playlist and ask yourself if you would have been equally buzzed if this was the setlist?

I know I  would have been more than thrilled.

I am not going to say more. Let the songs speak for themselves. 35 songs- almost the same length as the actual gig.

Please let me know what you think as I continue to wrestle with technical issues…
