Returning from my short blast to Manchester, I was working on a Sunday Read- until events overtook me.
One of the many things I love about the UK is their train system. Like many other European countries, trains everywhere and frequently.
Now I get it- to a point. There are many more persons residing in the UK in a smaller land mass. We can’t justify the frequency of long distance trains outside of the commuter trains in and around Toronto.
Whilst in the UK, I took trains from Manchester to both Liverpool and Chester while there. Trains were running about every 30 minuteven late at night.
Having said that, I made a last minute decision to train to and from Toronto primarily for safety reasons. I didn’t want to have to drive from Toronto alone after the flight from MCR that landed me in Toronto at 10:30 am today.
Mistake. I could have driven myself home and stopped to rest repeatedly and gotten him much earlier.
I will leave it at that though as we are all about making lemonade here than lemons.
But I was reminded of a song (as I often am.)
GANG OF FOUR from Leeds released this gem in 1981 on their sophomore LP “Solid Gold.”

I think the song is more about controlling relationship behaviour than the rails.
The metaphor works here though.
Here is a live version of “Outside The Trains Don’t Run On Time” for your listening pleasure.
Before the song, I was excited to learn this week that although the two remaining original members of GO4 went on a “final” tour last year, JON KING (no relation) and HUGO BURNHAM are recording new material!
