A rex Manchester Playlist For The Next 50 years.

While North American members of our Group slept last night Rex was busy listening and curating a 50 track playlist commemorating 50 years of Mancunian/ Indie playlist.

The trip got off to attend PETER HOOK’S 76//26//50 gig got off on a perfectly symbolical note as my gate from Toronto to Manchester was, as it had to be…

YUP- you can’t make this up

When I arrived in my hotel in Manchester this was on the wall in my washroom.

Yup. A framed playlist from a 1983 NEW ORDER “Power, Corruption and Lies” era gig. [Ed. Note- There was more than a little foreshadowing in that 2nd LP title as it now is clear.]

Anyway, no blades out today. Hook is the heart and soul of the Joy Division sound and the nadir of what made New Order great.

I have crafted a 50 track Spotify playlist of Manchester/ Factory Records for your enjoyment.

The playlist is random, including the placement of “Transmission” my favourite song ever, except the last as “Love Will Tear Us Apart” might be the best song ever recorded.

Enjoy.
