It is about time I finally got to my first 2025 gig. That drought ended last night as I went with 3 music pals to see the legendary Scottish outfit MOGWAI 🏴.
Despite listening to this band and their LOUD/quiet/LOUD/quiet (and mostly instrumental) songwriting style since their first release in the mid 90’s, this was my first time seeing them live!
After a lively set from Dayton, Ohio noise merchants Brainiac 🇺🇸 Mogwai took the stage at 9 pm.
Over 90 minutes of epic and pulverizing post rock later it was easy to conclude that they did not disappoint!
They played a number of songs from their 11th studio album “The Bad Fire” mixed with some of their classic tracks.

On their own ROCK ACTION LABEL.
(** “Bad Fire” is a Scottish euphemism for “hell”)
Here is one of my favourites- “Richie Sacramento” from their 2021 LP “As The Love Continues”. Amazingly that LP actually made it to #1 in the UK charts for a week. A stunning factoid in the era of over-hyped pap music (not a typo) if ever there was one.

Here is my fave track from The Bad Fire LP “Fanzine Made Of Flesh” which they also played.

And a live BONUS of Fanzine-
Here is the playlist for this blast of delightfully sonic devastation-

Conclusion- A gutsy performance in many respects. (Call me if you want those details.) It was also a great way to start what I plan to be a compelling year of live music!
