One of the indie bands that formed in 1981, and was considered a titan of indie music in the late 80’s, 90’s and 00’s was New York’s SONIC YOUTH 🇺🇸.
The band was fronted by THURSTON MOORE. Another founding member was KIM GORDON. They married in 1984.
The life of the band mirrored their marriage, ending with their separation in 2011 and subsequent divorce.
The band recorded about 15 studio LPs. Among the most prominent were these:

When the band broke up, I was surprised at the dispersal as LEE RENALDO and the other band members were accomplished, even though they lived in the shadows of THURSTON and GORDON.
He had released some solo music before the dissolution, but has continued with a fairly prolific solo career these past 15 years. I am partial particularly to this release:
As for GORDON, my attention waned. I knew she had been involved in any number of significant artistic endeavours, including art and acting but assumed that her musical career had ended.
Was I ever. I saw a copy of this LP while perusing the racks at Wreckless Records in Chicago back in 2019.
I bought it and was impressed.
I was recently excited to see that she just released her 3rd solo LP. I made my way to Dr. Disc and proprietor and Group member LIAM had a copy for me!
I am two listens in and give it an early 8/10. My clear favourite so far is the last track on side 1 – “Not Today”. Here it is to hopefully make your Sunday.
