I have done a number of posts relating to the number 23. It is a mythical number, particularly since it is the lowest prime number that is comprised of consecutive numbers.
This post, however, is also about 13. Lucky 13.
I was planning to do a specific post last week on this number but didn’t. However, that little story has expanded in scope and now needs to be told based on two events culminating on the evening of March 10.
Here we go.
March 2nd is a significant day for me with respect to sports. On that date in 1962, the incredible NBA player WILT CHAMBERLAIN (then playing for the Philadelphia Warriors) set an NBA record by scoring 100 points in a single game! 100 bloody points. It is a record that stands to this day.

Every year I look up the crazy details of this game played versus the NY Knicks in Hershey, PA. I love the fact that there is no video of this game and lots of wild speculation that it didn’t actually occur. As well, after the game Wilt drove back home to Philly in his Cadillac! Hilarious.
I won’t cite all the stats and details but I have them committed to memory.
Things got a bit weird later in the day on Match 2.
I never talk about my work on this site for obvious reasons. However , I will tweak that rule ever so slightly to say that on a Zoom matter that day, a male party was on camera wearing a t- shirt. As I looked at the shirt more closely, I noticed that it had an image of four hockey players – each just a bright colour. The shirts bore tiny symbols. (I thought at first the they might have been the letters of the F word so I focused to see.) I eventually ascertained that each was the number 13.
Guess what number WILT wore for his entire career? You got it!!

It seemed very surreal to me that on the very date of that historic game, a person was iwearing a shirt with that very number on it 4 times. Hmmm. It was a little Rod Serling.
I thought about doing a post on that odd coincidence but didn’t right away.
However, that changed. A week to the day later on March 9, 2026, Canadian NBA superstar SHAI GILGEOUS-ALEXANDER 🇨🇦 of the Oklahoma City Thunder scored more than 20 points for the 126th consecutive game. That tied a record set by, you guessed it – WILT.
I thought it was a bit odd that WILT was still in my orbit one week later.
That orbit extended one night later to the evening of the 10th. My son HAYDEN excitedly texted me that a good player on the Miami Heat, EDRICE FEMI “BAM”ADEBAYO had scored 83 points in a win over hapless Washington!
BAM!
It was the second most points ever scored by an NBA player in a single game.
Huh?
Yup. Almost 64 years later as I am living in this hue of WILT this also happens…?
And guess what number BAM ADEBAYO wears? You got it – also 13!

Here he is hugging his mother after the game

His girlfriend is WNBA legend A’JA WILSON.

[Ed. Note- Okay, so why wait until today to post about this event from Tuesday rex?] Easy, today is Friday the 13th!
And, if that is not enough numerology, consider that this is a rare year when there has been a Friday the 13th in both the 2nd month of the year and the 3rd month of the year. Back to my 23 fascination.
[Ed. Note- okay rex, a song please. This isn’t a Sunday read:]
There were two immediately obvious sources. First, I thought of a track from the 1999 LP entitled “13” by BLUR 🇬🇧.

)EMI – 1999)
The other option is a song by Portland 🇺🇸 free spirits THE DANDY WARHOLS from their classic 2000 LP “13 Tales From Urban Bohemia.”

I went with DANDY WARHOLS because the LP was released 2 X 13 years ago and the opening track “GODLESS” is a personal top 3 all time fave song of my son, DJ DREW.
