This is episode 5 in an ongoing series on the wonderful indie spirit of Waterloo, er sorry, Austin, Texas.

[Ed. Note- The area now known as Austin, Texas was originally called Waterloo in the 1830’s. As you will see, the name lives on…]

As many of you know, daughter Meghan resides is Austin. In honour of her alma mater, The University of Texas, I refer to her colloquially as “Meghan Longhorn.”

We visited Megs and her husband Kaled from Jan 7- 12. As is the case whenever I visit this incredibly creative place, I am inspired for this site. This is the first of a few posts from this trip.

One of the personal highlights of any trip to Austin are visits to two of my favourite record stores anywhere.

I will focus today on Waterloo Records.

Since my last visit, the store has moved just down the road to a larger, spectacular space.

Daughter Hannah knows I much I love this vinyl heaven and recently knit me this!

Once inside I got to meet new owner Caren and chat about all things vinyl, including the new pressing facility she and her partner have started.

The selection of music at Waterloo was such that I had to sit down and thin out my initial haul!

Congrats to Caren and former owner John with whom I also got to chat!

On my journey through the racks I was most excited to find this:

LSD AND THE SEARCH FOR GOD 🇺🇸 are an almost mythical psych/ shoegaze outfit formed in San Francisco, CA in 2005.

They have only released two, five track eps. The first was this eponymous 2007 debut:

The band is still active. In fact, they played some live gigs last year and re-released both of their records. I am was fortunate to obtain them both this time around as you can see.

Ironically, there are more former members of this outfit 12/13) than songs they have released.
