[Ed. Note- Back on September 28, rex did a post titled “My Favourite B- Side” with the NEW ORDER song “In A Lonely Place” (b-side of their debut “Ceremony.”)
Today, I give you another B-side that has profoundly affected me. The influential Scottish outfit THE DELGADOS 🏴 were around from 1994-2005. They reformed for some live events in 2022 but have not released any new recorded music.

They seem to have had a fascination with cycling. Their band name is an homage to Spanish 🇪🇸 Tour de France champ PEDRO DELGADO. As well, their first two LPs “Domestiques”and “Peloton” are cycling references.
The band also founded and still runs the noted indie label CHEMIKAL UNDERGROUND.
[Ed. Note- the label is home to early MOGWAI releases, ARAB STRAP (and solo works by their AIDAN and MALCOLM) and URUSEI YATSURA.]
I love all 5 DELGAGOS LPs and, in particular “The Great Eastern” (2000). It was nominated that year for the MERCURY PRIZE.
More on that gem soon, but today I want to share a b-side. One of the singles on “Peloton” was “Pull The Wires From The Wall”. That is a fine song in its own right, but it the 2nd b-side that I listen to most often.
It is entitled “Mauron Chanson”. I love the way the song builds. After about 2:20 of melodic pop it rolls into a jam-like frolic that I love. This track feels like it might have inspired indie favourites THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS. 🇨🇦
Check it out.
