Meet EMMANUEL!

EMMANUEL 🇦🇺 is the FIRST member of our little group from Australia!

The Set-Up

On my third visit to ROUGH TRADE EAST while in the UK, I was at the back of the store feverishly seeking orphan indie vinyl when a gentleman in a TEENAGE FANCLUB T-shirt was next to me studying the new STEREOLAB LP “Instant Holograms On Metal Film.”

I had purchased the LP on release day- May 23, 2025 at Revolver Records in Buffalo, N. Y. before the PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT gig that night. (See post from June 9, 2025.)

Common Interests

We started chatting indie music. Emmanuel was on holiday from Australia and was attending a couple of the OASIS gigs. We disagreed on that band, and he passed on my THREE QUARTER SKIES recommendation from SIMON SCOTT of SLOWDIVE (not a fan).

We settled on a passion for RIDE and discovered we both know their sound guy STU!

EMMANUEL works in Aboriginal- led land management in the Australian deserts and has travelled in Asia for numerous RIDE gigs.

We chatted and he was intrigued by this project.

As our first Australian group member, I asked EMMANUEL to select a tune by an Aussie band.

The Artist & The Song

His selection was an artist unfamiliar to me. It was YOU AM I from Sydney in the 1990’s.

The track is “Jewels and Bullets” from their 1995 LP “Hi Fi Way”
