While attending lectures in Cambridge last week one of the many mind-altering lectures was presented by on the topic of Brexit and the affects of same on Britain.

The speaker has been working for years addressing societal issues in Great Yarmouth.

This borough is located north-east of London on the North Sea coast.

A once well-known location for those on “summer holiday”, Great Yarmouth has been in significant economic decline for some time.

This area had the highest rate of support for Brexit (72% approx.) for a number of reasons, including high unemployment.

I immediately started considering a post by a band from Great Yarmouth (or nearby Norwich) but before I could finalize my selection along came the staff at ROUGH TRADE EAST.

After I attended an in-store performance on Sunday night to see KAE TEMPEST I had to go back Monday and continue the search for vinyl orphans.

It was an eventful visit spawning at least two posts.

At the counter, staff person STAN asked me if I liked JASON MOLINA 🇺🇸, the deceased solo artist and founding member of SONGS: OHIA. I quickly answered affirmatively.

STAN then dashed to the new releases wall and brought me this record by BROWN HORSES. (never heard it then before.)

You get one guess where BROWN HORSES are from…

And so the quest for an outfit from Greater Yarmouth was immediately resolved.

“All The Right Weaknesses” is a fantastic LP and a worthy successor to the ethos of JASON MOLINA.

[Ed. Note- Stan told rex that they did a gig in tribute to JASON MOLINA in Great Yarmouth and MOLINA’s mother attended. Brilliant.]

Stan described their music as Americana, and I agree.

Here is my favourite track from this LP entitled “Dog Rose.” I It is a song that I know will be rattling around in my head for a long, long time. It is that good.
