It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This… An Homage to Rough Trade East

It has become a tradition. Each time I am fortunate to get to ROUGH TRADE EAST, I take a selfie to note kk to visit this personal music mecca.

I rarely take selfies, but this store is so precious to me.

And so began my first visit of this trip yesterday. And what a visit it was!

I found a number of records on my wish list, including the newest 7” record by SWANSEA SOUND, entitled “Oasis v Blur”

Brilliant.

What sets a visit to this store apart for me are two things- 1. curation and 2).live music.

Rough Trade host several in store gigs a week. Over the 16 years

I have been fortunate to see in store performances by many artists.

But it is the staff that make ROUGH TRADE EAST top shelf.

Over the years, I have been treated amazingly by PHIL, WILLIAM, LOCKS and ADAM.

They have assisted and curated so much music for me, introducing me to artists such as FACTORY FLOOR, PYE CORNER AUDIO, FACTICE FACTORY, and NEW DAD.

They say England is a “Nation of Shopkeepers.” This store is a nation of shopkeepers that play music!

I have been introduced to staffer Joe who was in YOUNGHUSBAND. They opened for SLOWDIVE at their return gig in May 2024.

As well, the Bristol band SCALER (formerly SCALPING) featured RT staffer

Watch for their new LP “Endlessly” – out this September!

And so we get to yesterday. ADAM and STAN are assisting. They admire my deft purchase of this record out now on FUZZ CLUB by MIEN.

They then tell me that nearby staffer MATT loves this band and also their label,

A quick and easy curate from the artist and now I am the owner of this sweet piece of vinyl.
