What’s In The Bag? Series 6 and 7

My recent travels allowed me the opportunity to visit some new (and old) favourite record stores.

I will feature two more today and one on Sunday.

Vinyl Envy is a cool little store in a dodgy neighbourhood of Victoria. The tiny store features mostly used vinyl and live gigs.

I found a copy of my favourite LP by Scottish dance mavens DJANGO DJANGO 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. I first acquired this on CD in Ottawa in 2015 and was thrilled to add the vinyl to my collection.

Here is my fave track off the LP “Reflections”

Red Cat Records
East Vancouver, BC

RED CAT RECORDS is a choice indie record shop I have visited before in East Vancouver.

I managed to snare this daring 2023 debut LP by Irish/ British 🇮🇪 🇬🇧 feminists M(H)AOL.

The band is named after this Irish legend.

A 16th century land owner and political woman eventually taken by the British.

M(H)AOL make music not is not for the faint of heart-hearted.

[Ed. Note- WARNING- Think of them as a much edgier WET LEG or DRY CLEANING. That is, mostly spoken female vocals addressing very very controversial issues.]

Their new LP entitled “Something Soft” is just out and on my radar.

In the meantime, here is the debut LP emerging from the bag…

M(H)AOL debut “Attachment Styles” (Merge Records) (2023)

Lead track “Asking For It” blends strong social commentary with their distinctive sound…
