Having such all- consuming passion for indie music can be both a treasure and a bit of a curse.
There isn’t much that I see or hear in everyday that can’t be tied to a song title or lyric in my collection.
[Ed. Note- Rex sometimes says he has a song in his nearly 150k song collection for just about every word or situation. He is not exaggerating.]
Some lyrics have become part of my everyday vocabulary.
And so it was yesterday. We were attempting to circumnavigate Stanley Park in the rain. (Today we will succeed.)
As we walked along the south east corner of the park what is depicted in the video above occurred. It was a touch startling.
Turns out there is a small Royal Canadian Navy building (somewhat visible in the video). A reserve officer situated nearby explained that they were doing training on the use of 50 mm machine guns- firing blanks of course.
In this video I am quizzing the reservist while a plane flies over against this thoroughly urban background.
I started singing in my head right away (and occasionally out loud as we continued in the rain…)
“The sound of gunfire off in the distance; I’m getting used to it now…”
Here is today’s Sunday classic from 1979…
Here is an absolutely “crushing it” live version from their infamous “Remain In Light Tour”
