For a short while now I have been thinking about what I was going to post today. You see, it is the 1 year anniversary of a significant day of music for me.

We were visiting daughter Hannah B who was attending her 3rd year of Art studies in Southampton, UK.

They were both generous to make the horrifically long Sunday train ride to BRIGHTON for a remarkable gig.

The tiny HOPE & RUIN was hosting an event with 6 bands!

Two of the artists featured were high on my personal list, including early Creation Records legends THE JASMINE MINKS.

I was giddy to also see TREASURES OF MEXICO! This outfit is comprised of two members of highly regarded band THE DENTISTS- MARK MATTHEWS and ROBERT COLLINS.

As well, they feature one of my favourite indie musicians on vocals and assorted sounds- the amazing BETH ARZY 🇺🇸 🇬🇧.

I have posted about BETH before and will do so again. [Ed. Note rex could (and might) do an entire series on the bands that have featured BETH ARZY – she is that prolific.]

She is a transplanted Californian 🇺🇸 who has resided in 🇬🇧 for many years.

The evening went over the top when BETH gave me a shoutout at the start of “Halo”- my favourite song of 2023!

The serendipitous part of this comes from music news this week. BETH’S current band, JETSTREAM PONY just released a new single on the aforementioned SPINOUT NUGGETS label. It is as if they knew!!!

The song is a 2+ minute blast of exquisite dream pop entitled “Captain Palisade” b/w the instrumental “Shark Tail.”

JETSTREAM PONY are also comprised of SHAUN CHARMAN (formerly of THE WEDDING PRESENT), KERRY BOETTCHER (TURBOCAT), SARA BOYLE and with the aforementioned MARK MATTHEWS on touring guitar.

They have their 3rd LP out next March, already ensuring 2025 will be a great year…
