Nothing Black About This Friday For rex

I will not be one of the millions heading out into the retail demolition derby that is known as Black Friday. Not today. Not ever.

That is not to say that I am oblivious to one of the benefits of the retail excesses of the day.

You see, many of the musical artists I collect/ listen to use today to make announcements of upcoming 2025 releases.

My inbox was inundated with communications this morning from artists, record labels and record stores letting punters like myself know what is coming. Perusing these missives can be exciting. I learned of upcoming LPs by many faves today.

One such announcement came from the French duo LIMIÑANAS 🇫🇷.

The married duo, LIONEL and MARIE, have been active and prolific since 2009. They have often collaborated with other prominent musicians.

Listening to LIMIÑANAS can seem like a trip back in time. Their sound is inflected with the spirit of older psychedelic artists.

I first heard LIMIÑANAS because of the first of their two collaborations with PETER HOOK 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 on the sublime track “Garden Of Love” from their 2016 LP “Malamore.”

They have also collaborated with American 🇺🇸 ex-pat ANTON NEWCOMBE (now Berlin 🇩🇪 resident) of the famed legends BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE. They have also recorded with LAURENT GARNIER 🇫🇷 and actress EMMANUELLE SEIGNER 🇫🇷, (pictured below with her movie- making and disgraced husband I will not watch, or even name.)

This trend is no different on their February 21, 2025 release entitled “Faded”.

The two songs pre-released just today are collaborations with none other than Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 indie legend BOBBY GILESPIE of PRIMAL SCREAM and French 🇫🇷 crooner BERTRAND BELIN.
