It has been 80 years since my Uncle Rolph lost his life defending Europe in WWII.

He was a gunner on an RCAF Lancaster bomber that was shot down on his 2nd last sortie.

Kimberly and I were fortunate to have visited London in October of 2014 and saw an incredible installation. The Tower of London was enveloped in ceramic poppies. It was entitled “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red.” It marked the centennial of the start of the war when Arch- Duke of Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.

It was a moment of awe and reflection when we learned that each of the 888,246 poppies represented a British 🇬🇧 or colonial service soldier 🇨🇦 🇦🇺 🇳🇿 🇮🇳 🇯🇲 etc. who passed during the war.

I have selected the album “YPRES” from faves THE TINDERSTICKS for today and tomorrow. It quietly captures the horror and scope of The First Great War which started 110 years ago.

At almost an hour in length, the album will provide a quiet soundtrack for you today or tomorrow, should you be so inclined.
