Meet JACK WHITE!

No, not that JACK WHITE. Not the 5 Star general of The Seven Nation Army. That JACK WHITE was born JOHN ANTHONY GILLIS in Detroit in 1975. He didn’t become JACK WHITE until he took the name of his then wife MEG WHITE who was the drummer in their band WHITE STRIPES.

No, this JACK WHITE was born with that name.

He works for the HOTEL OTIS (Autograph Collection) in AUSTIN, TX as Lead Vinyl Ambassador and runs their very cool music library. Given the importance of Austin to the music world, Jack curates and acquires the approximately 1,000 LPs in their lending/ selling library.

Each room of the hotel is equipped with a turntable and guests of the hotel can sign out the music to play in their rooms.

I met Jack whilst Hayden and I stayed at this cool hotel in the summer.

It is because of the Detroit Jack, the name of Austin Jack is, in a sense, an aptronym.

[Ed. Note- An aptronym is a person with a name that reflects their occupation. For example, rex once knew a nurse with the last name “Nurse”.]

Anyway, Jack is cool young person who graduated in music from the nearby UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS and knows his music. The hotel collection consists of a wide variety of music (as one might suspect) but I was impressed with the percentage that was indie.

I asked JACK to curate a song for today’s post. I asked him for something that would likely be unknown to members of gwilliamrexunderground365.

He didn’t disappoint.
