THANKS FOR FRIENDS

I don’t want to get all sappy on Canadian Thanksgiving because that doesn’t seem too post- punk but something happened this week that demands a heartfelt thanks.

I have made so many great music friends over these many years chasing the dream of the next perfect song. Many of those friends are indie mavens like myself. Some are musicians.

One such pal is accomplished Wïndsor music icon DANIEL VICTOR @iamneverending of the legendary outfit NEVERENDING WHITE LIGHTS 🇨🇦.

I was introduced to DV by mutual friend MIKE @iammiozio back on an unbelievably gorgeous day on March 15, 2012.

We were able to sit outside at in 80 degree weather having an incredible al fresco lunch at pal ENZO’S trattoria with playing songs on of mutual interest on a mini MP3 boombox.

A barrage of indie reference points ensued. (What is the name of the band fronted by the brother of Thom Yorke from Radiohead?)

Our friendship endures to this day.

I will spend more time in a future post updating you on the forthcoming NEVERENDING WHITE LIGHTS LP, but today I want to share an amazing playlist DV recently made for me.

It is called GW REX 2024 and is available on SPOTIFY. It contains 84 songs stretching over 5 hours comprised of over 70 artists. All songs have been released this year. I was only familiar with about 1/3 of these artists.

I would generalize the list as more punk/ post- punk as he knows the sounds I most like. Many would be compared to an artist on the list – FONTAINES D.C. 🇮🇪

For today’s song I want to focus on track 23. (Are you with me Brian). The band is OCTOBER DRIFT. They are from Somerset, UK 🇬🇧

It is the title track from their newest album- “Blame The Young”. I liked this punk anthem so much I needed the lp. and DJ Drew and I tracked it down Thursday night.
