I lost one of my of my dearest friends in the world this week.

DOUG LAWSON was an incredible lawyer, community leader, mentor, loving husband, parent, grandparent and an all-round great guy.

Doug was one of my career mentors, law partner for over 30 years and life long friend.

I was honoured by Doug’s spouse Jeffrey to be the speaker at his memorial service yesterday. I took the opportunity to create a playlist and shared the title with those present. There are 44 songs on this list – 1 for each of the years since I began working with Doug on graduation from law school.

The songs are varied. Many are piano based since Doug was an accomplished pianist. Some were songs I had shared with him over the years. Some were by gay artists. A few by personal friends (Hook, Ford, BFG, Amelia Chain.) There are artists from his roots in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and the winter home he and Jeff had for many wonderful years in New Zealand 🇳🇿
