RINGING DOT’S BELL

There has probably been no musician more enmeshed in my music enjoyment this year than ANDY BELL 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

[Ed. Note- rex is not talking about the ANDY BELL from ERASURE 🇬🇧 although he has some of their earlier music in his collection.]

Rather, I am referring to the outstanding guitarist/ vocalist ANDY BELL from RIDE. [Ed. Note- This is the guy that survived being a member of (Odious) OASIS 🇬🇧 from 1999 to 2009 following the temporary demise of RIDE and his follow-up outfit- HURRICANE #1.

I saw an incendiary RIDE gig in Detroit in February where the new and thrilling RIDE song ‘MONACO’ was played live for just the 2nd time.

BELL also did the following this year;

1. Released solo material in his own name.

2. Released music as his electronic alter ego GLOK.

3. Remixed the band A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS 🇺🇸 (and others);

4 Released music with MASAL 🇹🇷

5. Formed a supergroup with SHAUN RYDER and BEZ of the HAPPY MONDAYS and ZAK STARKEY (THE WHO, OASIS) called MANTRA OF THE COSMOS.

These numerous projects alone would be enough to warrant inclusion on this esteemed list of Magic Moments.

However, it became a no-brainer when I received my DINKED copy of the new LP by the one and only former ONE DOVE chanteuse DOT ALLISON last month.

The LP is entitled “Consciousology” (Sonic Cathedral- 2023). We were now over-the-top.

There are 9 tracks on this gem and two of them feature BELL! What an amazing combination of talent and music.

Here is ‘Unchanged’. It is a bit of a shoegaze masterpiece that builds and builds…
