GRATEFUL TO YOU STU

Back on a rainy and mild Sunday night in February Group Members JON JON. STUART and I went to Detroit to see a co- headline gig – THE CHARLATANS and RIDE.

Many in the group will remember the story of the kindness of RIDE Sound man STU MACAULAY who went to the trouble of getting the RIDE setlist signed and mailing it to me from San Francisco at the end of the tour. Incredible.

STU and I have kept in touch and we met again in September when he was doing the desk for SLOWDIVE. Again, incredible.

After that gig we went for a quick beer/ ale and STU told me about another outfit he is working with that he said is going to be “HUGE”. [Ed. Note- rex took him to mean that in the indie context btw.]

I have obsessed over this outfit ever since. They are called BIG SPECIAL. I did a posting in September. At first blush it doesn’t sound like the style of music I listen to…but I do love it.

The latest track to come to my attention is ‘Trees’. It is astonishing to me. Kinda of a rap acapella that morphs into a brief but perfect punk blast.
