It’s been 5 years today since our Dad, GEORGE ERNEST KING, heard GLENN MILLER and OSCAR PETERSON for the last time.
Seems hard to believe.
The bifurcation of that time due to the Pandemic makes it seem shorter.
My sister Margaret and I miss him every day. Early last evening we were chatting about how excited he would have been when his Detroit Lions 🏈 won in L.A.
Sr. was just a month shy of his 94th birthday and passed after a very short illness. (He was driving 30 days earlier.)
The son of a career musician father and of a world class vocalist mother, music was in his bones.

He was particularly fond of Big Band and Jazz. Having said that, he was always open to listen to new types of indie music that I would curate for him from time to time.
[Ed. Note- he was infinitely more open- minded in this respect than rex who is an admitted indie snob and has the socks to prove it!]

Some of the artists I gave CDs to my Dad after he listened were:
LET’S EAT GRANDMA

DAVID FORD

DEXY’S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS

and the focus of today’s post-
A CERTAIN RATIO

From that 1981 LP by the legendary Mancunians on FACTORY RECORDS (but recorded in New Jersey) here is ‘My Spirit’ in honour of GEORGE E. KING for a life well-lived.
