BORN SANDY DEVOTIONAL

Chatting today with Toronto colleague Kelly about her daughter who resides in Australia, I was reminded that I have yet to feature a song by the band THE TRIFFIDS from the west coast of that continent/ country – Perth 🇦🇺

In particular I love the rollicking, melodic songs on their 1986 opus “Born Sandy Devotional.”

I recently learned that this record was ranked 5th in a publication of the Top 100 Australian LPs.

THE TRIFFIDS- BORN SANDY DEVOTIONAL (1986)

Through several mid 80’s releases this outfit were a big deal in the relatively small indie universe. I collected them throughout their time together.

They were led by singer/ guitarist David McComb. The band disbanded in 1989.

McComb passed in 1999 at the age of 37. Heroin addiction led to a heart transplant and a few years later, heart complications ended his life prematurely.

DAVID McCOMB (1962-1999)

My favourite track on this LP is, as Group members might suspect, is not the most popular. That honour goes to ‘Wide Open Road’, which many consider one of the greatest Australian tracks ever.

However, I am partial to the longer, more complex, darker, penultimate track entitled ‘Stolen Property.’

Here it is. I hope you enjoy.
