You may remember yesterday’s post was about the ETERNAL song ‘Sleep’ and how I hoped that SLOWDIVE would play it on the opening night of their 2023 North American tour.

Didn’t happen. Didn’t matter.

The evening was a musical mountaintop!

Firstly, opening act DRAB MAJESTY wowed the audience of 2,400 with an outstanding 7 song set.

I was stunned how few in attendance knew the band. I say this because the lineup for SLOWDIVE merch was over 100 persons and I was the only one at the DRAB table…

Once inside, SLOWDIVE soundman (and host of myself, daughter Courts and her friend Grace) Stu came over to say hi!

Those in the group will remember Stu. Back in February he went to the trouble to send me a signed setlist from San Fran at the end of the tour!

I wore a T-shirt by London band YOUNGHUSBAND because they were the opening act when I saw the very first SLOWDIVE reunion gig in 2014!

The gig was incendiary.

In this writer’s opinion, SLOWDIVE have never sounded better. The delivery of the songs was both crisp and incredibly powerful.

I tasked Courts and Grace with choosing their favourite song. This was an interesting experiment as neither was particularly familiar with the band.

Their selection?

‘Souvlaki Space Station’ from the heavily featured masterpiece “Souvlaki” (1993).

A late night post- gig with Stu and guitar tech Kevin topped off a wonderful day and night of no sleep!
