Is The Solo Stuff Any Good?

I saw this week that it was the 34th anniversary of the first solo release by lead singer IAN McCULLOCH of ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN.

After 4 brilliant LPs and a so-so 5th disc, bickering, recriminations and whatever led to the fracturing of this treasured Liverpool 🇬🇧 outfit.

IAN was the face of the band. He departed snd released “Candleland.”

The Debut LP

The LP was produced by former GENTLE GIANT member RAY SHULMAN. The title track featured COCTEAU TWINS vocalist LIZ FRAZIER. [Ed. Note FRAZIER was I high demand as a guest vocalist during this period.]

Here is that title track for your late night enjoyment-

The mellifluous voice temis ever present but I never got attached to his solo stuff like I did the BUNNYMEN gems. Just sayin’
