Uncovering Gems (Vol. 1)

Not that I want to romanticize it, but with little activity outside the home other than work, I discovered some new music of note in the first year of the pandemic.

One such find was on a charity cd compilation I purchased. It was entitled “MANCMADE///Songs of Hope” and was released in 2020 to raise funds for mental health relief. PETER HOOK, JOHNNY MARR and IST IST contributed, so it was a must- purchase for me.

One of the gems on the release was a song by a relatively obscure Manchester 🇬🇧 act with a quintessential Mancunian name- FACTORY ACTS. Technically from Salford, this sort of dark wave duo have been recording since 2012.

They are named after British child labour laws dating back to 1802.

They were new to me. A remix of their song ‘Car Crash- (Kerbside Mix)’ was on the cd and became an immediate fave.

Here it is the original mix first because it has a video. The remix I first heard when the cd arrived in the post is included on YouTube but, unfortunately, I could not find a SPOTIFY version.
