rex FESTIVE 15 (No. 5)

This is episode 5 of the new “rex Festive 15 series”. The plot is to identify for you 15 newish outfits that have my serious attention and interest. The previous entries have been:

  1. BDRMM
  2. JUST MUSTARD
  3. SQUID
  4. BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD

As indicated, the order will be random. I am not ranking these artists other than as a select group.

Today – FONTAINES D. C.

THE DATA

FROM- Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪
SINCE- 2019 (recording)
GENRE- Punk/indie

LPS

  1. Dogrel (2019)
  2. A Hero’s Death 2020
  3. Skinny Fîa (2022)

RIYL

  1. WHIPPINIG BOY
  2. A HOUSE
  3. THE FALL

I selected this 5- piece for the rex Festive 15 series as they have been on my weekly listening rotation for 3 years. The spoken word lyrics of GRIAN CHATTEN, combined with their forceful yet creative bass driven punk sound place this outfit near the top of my League.

I featured their song ‘Televised Mind from

“A Hero’s Death” back at song 157. It was my top track of 2020.

Today we feature the title track from their most recent LP- “Skinty Fîa”

-[Ed. Note- To answer the question before you ask, “skinty fia” is Irish slang for “FSM nation of the deer”. It is used in speech as a swearing.]

[Ed. Note- one of my modest wishes is to be able to pay the Dave Clarke remix of ‘Televised Mind’ as part of @gwilliamrex DJ set to a full house. Here is it as a summer bonus.
