We made our first visit to Bletchley Park yesterday. It was fascinating and awe-inspiring.

Here is a pic of the Main House-

But our focus today is on one of the main protagonists of the work that was performed by up to 8,000 dedicated persons (a majority of whom were women) who decoded the Enigma MAchine messages of the Germans, Italians and Japanese during WWII.

ALAN TURING, a mathematician, had his own building at Bletchley where he and his staff decoded naval messages. He is said to be one of the inventors of the modern computer and creator of articulation intelligence.

Here is one of the offices in Building 8

After the war, Turing, who was a gay person, elected to be castrated rather than go to jail after being convicted of a morals charge. Not long after, he committed suicide by eating a poisoned apple.

For years the rumour was that the bit shown on the Apple Computer logo was an homage to TURING. Perhaps not true, but would be a fantastic homage to this amazing person if it were true.

Today’s song then is a tip to the ingenuity and tenaciousness of Turing.
