Two Blasts From The Past aka Deja Voodoo

No sooner than I had sent out the July 4th post last evening that I looked at my phone and was advised that a pair of legendary musicians had teamed up to release a song entitled – Yup you guessed it ‘Fourth of July.’

Ridiculous.

They say timing is everything.

However, rather than trying to remember to post this slice of guitar pop i365 days from now, I thought I would do a JULY 4th redux. [Ed. Note- remember next year is a leap year so it is not 364 days until next July 4th.]

STEVE CONTE was a member of the infamous NEW YORK DOLLS. What caught my eye, however is that he is working with one of my all-time favourites, XTC guitarist ANDY PARTRIDGE. (Conte and I agree that Partridge is one of the greatest songwriters ever.)

Andy Partridge

[Ed. Note- Remember that the first two post punk records purchased by rex in 1979 were “154” by WIRE and “Drums and Wires” by XTC. This explains the sentimentality of rex on this one indulge him that.]

They have teamed up for 8 tracks. ‘Fourth of July’ was released last night as best I can tell. It is a fun guitar track. Here goes. Listen for Partridge’s guitar magic! The guitar work remind me of TERRY BICKERS, the ex HOUSE OF LOVE guitar player for some reason.
